Reports & Publications

The Markle Foundation conducts a significant amount of original research. These studies are produced both internally by Markle staff, and externally by experts and leading practitioners in their relevant fields. Overall, the aim of our research is to inform policy makers, industry and civil society on the potential of emerging information and communication technologies to improve people's lives. In addition, the research effort allows Markle and others to map accelerating trends in the areas in which we work.

This research falls into two broad categories:

	Addressing Critical Public Needs in the Information Age The Markle Foundation has issued its 2004 report, Addressing Critical Public Needs in the Information Age. The report also includes an overview of some of Markle's major initiatives, projects and contributions to public benefit over the past four years.


	Creating a Trusted Information Network for Homeland Security Second Report of the Markle Foundation Task Force This report details the elements of a proposed System-wide Homeland Analysis and Resource Exchange (SHARE) Network that would more effectively combat terrorism while protecting privacy and other civil liberties


	Connecting for Health In June 2002, the Markle Foundation launched an ambitious public-private initiative designed to improve patient care by promoting the adoption of an initial set of standards for electronic medical information, in a way that protects patient privacy.
